  ~~~ LIL ELIJAH ~~~
Hi.  My name is Elijah and I am 4 years old.  I have been having migraine headaches for a little while.  My mommy and daddy were worried and took me to the doctor where they found a small tumor.  My diagnosis was PNET. I am a sweet, kind, and loving little boy...at least that is what DC & The Family say about me!  My mommy and daddy are trying to stay strong, and with everyone's love, prayers, thoughts and support they help me to get through each day! I am feeling okay right now and am anxiously awaiting the surgery so I don't have anymore headaches. Thank you for all of your love and support!
If you would like to help out Elijah & his family, you can do so via the address below!
 HUGE UPDATE
DC and the Family,
We got the phone call we had been waiting for such a long time, Elijah's tumors are gone!  Though I would like praise radiation and chemotherapy, I know that without God's healing capabilities and his creation of medicine for man to use this would not be possible.  We start maintenance chemotherapy next Thursday and are making a decision whether or not to keep his care at Children's Hospital or switch to St. John's.  A lot of people have heard our story on your radio show and we want to thank you for your continued support and helping us get Elijah's story out and informing people of pediatric brain tumors.  It's ok to cry too, I did all night while I was working on my first night back to work.  Lol
August, 2009- "DC & THE FAMILY".......Literally their family hit national TV!!!
In July we told you about some TV projects that DC, and new family member "Griff" had been offered......WELL, here is the scoop on TV project #1!!  This article is from the LA Times and Hollywood Reporter.....enjoy the details and look for the show to be featured
on the "Discovery Channel" in the Fall of 2009!
If you were producing a cable-TV reality show in which a right-wing "Red State" family went to live in the home of a liberal "Blue State" family and vice-versa, which cozy little community would you choose to represent Bush-bashing, soy-latte-drinking, Prius-driving, United-Nations-loving, Patriot-Act-opposing, evolution-believing, left-wing America?
Did anyone say..."Topanga Canyon?" This summer, Creative Differences Productions ("Made in America," "Unsolved History") will be taping "Red/Blue," a sort of cross between "Trading Spaces" and "Crossfire," in which a progressive-type family swaps lives with one from John Ashcroft country. The Blue state family will be none other than Topanga's own Rebecca and James Catterall and their kids, who will spend 10 days in St. Charles, Missouri. Meanwhile, the Wilhelms–a conservative, born-again Christian clan–will be imported
from St. Charles to our own Canyon.
"Some call it reality television, I call it a social experiment," says producer/director Eric Boardman. "I hope to start some dialogue and conversation."
The finished product will air as a two-hour special on the Discovery Channel next fall.
Boardman and his fellow producers conducted a nationwide search for candidates for the show, before meeting the Catteralls through a moveon.org event.
"We were looking for interesting, passionate, adventurous families," Boardman said. "We knew Rebecca was right for the show when she said, ‘I'm one of those people
who pinches their nose and leaps.'"
The Catterall's daughter, Hannah, Boardman says, wanted to know
who owns the Discovery Channel, and what their agenda was.
"So she's just what we want," he grins.
The Catterall family. From left: James, Rebecca, Hannah, Lisa and Grady.
Rebecca Catterall is a ceramic artist and one of the driving forces behind the recently-resurgent Topanga Democratic Club. James Catterall is a professor at UCLA's Graduate School of Education and Information Studies, and specializes in the role of the arts in early childhood education. Their 17-year-old son Grady will be accompanying them for the 10 days they spend behind the conservative curtain. Hannah, a physics major at UC Santa Cruz, will make a visit to St. Charles, as will James' eldest daughter, Lisa, who is gay,
along with her partner and their adopted baby.
"The whole family is very progressive," Rebecca Catterall says. "We're very concerned with the direction this country is headed, and this is a great opportunity to get a message out."
As for the Wilhelms, dad is a radio talk-show host who broadcasts under the name D.C. Chymes. Wife Anna is a full-time mom to their four kids, ages 4 to 18. Also making the trip will be D.C.'s mother, who according to Boardman is "a real pistol."
The action will begin in the Denver airport, where the two families will meet for the first time, exchange keys, wish each other luck, and continue on to their new locales. Once they've arrived, the Catteralls and Wilhelms will be followed on their adventures by a 4-5 person camera crew. The tape won't be rolling 24 hours a day, says Boardman, "but almost." The families will meet again in Denver as they head home to watch highlight
reels and discuss their respective experiences.
Each family will prepare a list of "must-do's" for their counterparts, to make sure they get the full experience of the other's communities. Rebecca Catterall says their list for the Wilhelms includes seeing a play at Theatricum Botanicum; sampling Topanga's restaurants, cafes and shops; and a docent hike with the Nursery Nature Institute, as well as more overtly political activities such as attending the Friday night anti-war vigil outside Pine Tree Circle, and a visit to Arlington West–the weekly memorial to Iraq war dead on the beach in Santa Monica.
While the Wilhelms will likely sample the New Age-y fare at Inn of the Seventh Ray, Boardman says the Catteralls will doubtless follow St. Charles' tradition with a Friday night meal at the local Cracker Barrel, where each entree comes
with three side-dishes, mostly starches.
James and Rebecca will go out shooting with Mrs. Wilhelm's dad–unfortunately it's not hunting season–while the Wilhelms accompany Topanga Animal Rescue's Susan Clark on one of her missions of mercy. The Wilhelm children are scheduled to take part in Fairy Tale Theater at the Coyote Club in "Little Red Riding Hood," Topanga-style, in which the wolf is a vegetarian and is reformed instead of slain at the end.   "We're looking for interesting places to put them, to have interesting experiences and expose them to all
aspects of Topanga," says Boardman.
"I won't humiliate them. Most reality TV is based on humiliation, and I
wouldn't do that. But I do want to challenge their principles."
Boardman says he won't falsify anything for the show, but he will make an
effort to arrange archetypal Topanga moments for the visiting Red-staters.
For instance, while scouting in the Canyon, he spotted a Prius covered with anti-war and anti-Bush bumper stickers parked at Pine Tree Circle. He got the name and number of the car's owner, and says he may ask to have it parked there when the Wilhelms are stopping for breakfast at Waterlily.   "That wouldn't be cheating," Boardman says. "It was really there."
The two families will leave welcoming gifts for each other, and a book or two as recommended reading. For the Catterall's edification, the Wilhelms have reportedly already chosen inspirational best-seller "The Purpose-Driven Life" by Rick Warren.
They will also leave their pantries and fridges fully stocked so their first few meals, at least, will have to consist of their counterpart's family's favorite foods.
They will be able to bring an "emergency kit" of items they don't think they'll be
able to find across culture war-lines.
"James told me, ‘I must have my chocolate-covered coffee beans from
Trader Joe's,'" Boardman says.
When he was interviewing families, Boardman says he would always make sure to look in their refrigerators, on the principle of ‘you are what you eat.' He says the one consistent difference between Red and Blue state ice boxes was in the beverage department–apparently, soda consumption is a reliable marker for ideological position.  "Blue state families had juice, goat-cheese, tofu, but no Coke," he says. "Red staters usually
had a couple of shelves dedicated to soda pop."
Soda-drinkers or not, Topanga should not expect the Wilhelms to be a bunch of backwoods bumpkins. According to his online bio, Isaiah Wilhelm grew up touring the world with his gospel-singer parents. As a St. Louis-based radio personality he has spent his adulthood in the world of major-market media, including a stint as a top-rated, drive-time "shock jock" in the early '90s, apparently before he incorporated his Christian beliefs into his on-air persona.
Though Boardman calls the two families "official representatives" of the Red and Blue states, Rebecca Catterall declines that responsibility.
"Am I putting the pressure on myself of representing the Democratic Party or something? No, we haven't been anointed to do that," she says. "We're just a family who
happens to be progressive."
Still, Boardman is confident that the Catteralls will be outspoken and passionate advocates for their cultural and political points of view.
"Rebecca wants to go out and spread the Gospel," he says.
"Well, maybe Gospel is the wrong word."
Rebecca Catterall understands that, with hundreds of hours of tape being edited down to a two-hour program, the message "Red/Blue" ultimately delivers will depend on the story its creators want to tell, but she's comfortable with Discovery Channel's fairness.
"If it were Fox, I'd be more worried," she says.
Her biggest concerns, she admits, are "silly image things–mispronouncing something, or having something I say misconstrued."
What mission the Wilhelms have in mind, we'll have to wait and see. While doubtless counting on a modicum of conflict to make things lively, Boardman hopes some bridge-building will result as well.
"There was a time in this country when I could respect your opinion–I didn't have to agree with it," he laments. "Now, we hear it on TV and from Congress, if you disagree with me, not only are you an idiot, you're a traitor!"
He hopes that the effect of "Red/Blue" will be to "celebrate our
differences and look for common ground."
For example, Rebecca Catterall will sit down at a pottery
wheel with a local ceramicist in St. Charles.
"There's a real Mid-Western friendliness there," Boardman says.
"They're so proud of their town, just like Topangans."
